ONE of Europe's top tribute bands pays a visit to Cumbria as part of their latest UK tour.

Explosive Light Orchestra, playing the hits of Jeff Lynne's ELO, have a live appearance at the Carnegie Theatre, in Workington, on Saturday April 29.

Winners of the European Tribute band Award for Best Rock Tribute three years ago, they have maintained a fanbase across the continent.

As an original band, they perform under the banner of Symphonika, playing music inspired by ELO. Their success in this capacity has also led to them working with ELO and Queen producer Reinhold Mack, and that sparked their side-project.

Explosive Light Orchestra take on all the major hits, such as Mr Blue Sky, Living Thing, Turn to Stone, Telephone Line, Don't Bring me down, Evil Woman, Last Train to London, and many others.

ELO were a phenomenon and one of the forefront experimental bands of the 1970s and early 1980s, melding the sound of British rock music with classical strings.

The band are all professional, multi-talented musicians and singers, who have played thousands of dates all over the world.

Robin Myles, who takes on the Jeff Lynne role on lead vocals and guitars, is a composer for TV, radio and theatre, while the rest of the band, Dave Purkiss on drums, Aidan Thorne on bass, Jason Ball on guitar, Sarah Fowler on keys, Xenia Porteous on violin, and cellists Mel Sadie, Abigail Blackman and Jimmy Ottley, have all toured with various bands or released solo material.

Doors for the show in Workington on April 29 open at 7.15pm, and tickets are available in advance from the venue's box office.
