Two West Cumbrian am dram figures who got engaged on stage got to share the limelight on their wedding day, thanks to a surprise video produced by their co-stars.

Kim Fisher and Mark Hazzard were keen for their friends from Workington's two am dram society's to play a role in their big day on Saturday.

But, when the High Harrington couple married at the town's St Michael's Church, they had no idea that many of their fellow performers had been to the church ahead of them - two months ahead, in fact.

Inspired by an am dram production of Sister Act in Whitehaven, Mark Stilwell of Workington Amateur Operatic Society was prompted to create a music video in honour of the happy couple.

He called on fellow group member Daniel MacCreedy, who also performs with Workington and District Amateur Musical Society, to help.

And between them the pair enlisted a company of other group members to take part in the production.

The 20-strong group recorded the lyrics to Spread the Love Around in April before visiting the church in June to film the video footage.

Mark Stilwell said: "We all managed to keep it a secret but it was really difficult not to mention - especially knowing that Mark and Kim would have loved to have been involved."

Mark had to admit to the groom that the group had something planned, after he asked if they'd perform for the big day.

But it was not until the reception at New House Farm in Lorton that all was revealed.

Newlywed Mark, 26, said: "Just before the first dance Kim and I were taken to the dance floor to designated front row seats before it was displayed for us and all our guests on a large screen.

"We were completely overwhelmed by the time and dedication that our friends had given to such an amazing gesture. Amazingly, everyone that had contributed to the video had managed to keep it a complete secret from us.

"We feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends who were willing to give so much of their time, just for us."

Mark Stilwell added: "Everyone else that was in the video also saw it for the first time on the night of the wedding so it was pretty special for everyone."

Am dram has already played a part in the lives of the new Mr and Mrs Hazzard.

Mark, who is deputy headteacher of Maryport's Ellenborough and Ewanrigg Infant School, is musical director for WADAMS, while Kim, who works for Iron Mountain, is a regular leading lady for both societies.

Mark, 26, proposed to Kim, 28, at the end of WADAMS' production of Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 in April 2016.

The couple are expecting their first child - a baby boy - around Christmas.
