A titanic effort is being made to take a sporting club from strength to strength.

Cockermouth Titans Amateur Rugby League Club is growing in stature, with players ranging from under-11s to adults.

And, as it lays foundations for a stronger future, a house-builder has backed the outfit’s efforts.

Lovell, which is building The Laureates in the town, has given a £250 donation to support the club.

David Whitworth, coach for the open age team, is a bricklayer sub-contractor working at The Laureates. He approached the company for support.

David said: “I have been on site at The Laureates since day one. In fact, I laid the foundations for the show homes here.

“We’re so grateful for the support, it helps to keep club costs down. The Titans is a great community club going from strength to strength. The first team has just been set back up and the youth sides are thriving.

“We always need funding to help with the running costs, such as kits, balls, pitch equipment, which is why we’re so appreciative of this funding boost.”

Wendy Gibson, senior quantity surveyor for Lovell, who David approached, said: “Lovell have welcomed many families to the area, some who may go on to become members of the club.

"We are more than happy to show our support for the Titans.”
