Floral tributes have appeared on streets in memory of William Richardson, an award-winning boxer stabbed to death.

Buckets of bouquets along with souvenirs of his life have been left on Senhouse House Street, where he was stabbed in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

There are also flowers next to the railings on Shipping Brow outside the Middle Tap.

On Monday night Maryport Town Council observed a minute's silence for Mr Richardson, 34, and sent condolences to his family.

Today, a lantern release will be held on the Maryport Promenade, starting at 6pm.

Billy Collier, one of the organisers, said: "Maryport is a small place and a very tight community.

"Everyone knew William through his boxing and from just being one of the lads."

Sean Morrin, 32, of Nelson Street, Maryport, was charged with murder and was due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court today.

Police said the court appearance is not going ahead, however, and Morrin will continue to be remanded until his next appearance at Carlisle Crown Court on August 29.
