A man who carried out a shocking and deliberate ear-biting attack on a teenager in a Workington pub has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Lancelot Neen, 40, was said to have been "very drunk" when he launched himself at the 16-year-old in the town's Vinnies bar on December 29.

CCTV played at Carlisle Crown Court captured the moment Neen leapt at the male and bit his ear.

A combination of his bite - and the innocent intervention of a bystander who pulled Neen away - resulted in part of the ear being completely severed.

It was not possible to reattach that piece of flesh and the court heard the disfigured teen is awaiting plastic surgery.

Neen admitted causing the victim grievous bodily harm but denied a more serious GBH charge of intending to do so.

But today a jury at the crown court found him unanimously guilty.

Neen, of Greysouthen, near Cockermouth, was said to "truly regret" his conduct but had "little recollection" of what he did.

He was sent to prison by Judge Barbara Forrester, who noted the victim's life had been "significantly affected" by the attack.
