A man seen wandering around a convenience store with a 10in knife tucked into his trouser waistband has been jailed.
Ryan Neil Simpson, 38, received a 10-month prison term at Carlisle Crown Court.
He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in a public place on March 26.
The court heard Simpson was "acting strangely" as he walked around Maryport Co-op with a shopping basket.
Police were called after the large knife was seen within his clothing, and placed him in handcuffs.
Hearing Simpson, of Senhouse Street, Maryport, had previous convictions, Judge Peter Davies imposed an immediate prison sentence.
"Knives are too dangerous," said Judge Davies. "I am not tolerating that on the streets of Cumbria."
