A West Cumbrian charity got a boost of more than £1,500 thanks to a pub’s race night and raffle.

More than 40 people attended the event, which was organised by Celean Messenger and her daughter Kirsty Smith in their local pub, The Galloping Horse, at High Harrington.

Celean, 46, has grandchildren with autism who have been helped by the group Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland so deci-ded to raise money for the group.

She said: “I’ve got grandchildren with autism and we have a local group that organises a lot of activities for the children.

“A lot of children with autism struggle when they don’t have school to go to because they like to be kept in their routine.”

Activities include trips away, sports and art and craft sessions, which Celean said can be comforting for children with autism.
