A group of Cockermouth girls dug deep to mark the 30th anniversary of the Rainbows – by burying a time capsule.

The 8th Cockermouth Rainbows have been working towards their 30th Birthday Challenge badge. Burying the time capsule was part of this project.

The group of five to seven-year-olds meets on Tuesdays at Lorton Street Methodist Church.

Leader Ann Bicknell said: “They have been looking back to when Rainbows started and thinking about what it used to be like, the different uniforms and mascots.

“They then decided what they would like in the time capsule, which will be opened in 20 years.”

The contents of the time capsule included information about the girls and their wishes for the future, a list of their favourite foods, an old mascot, photos, badges and small toys.

They buried it in the church grounds.

Ann said: “It was a lot of fun. They enjoyed sharing facts about Rainbows in the past, their different uniforms and mascots over the years.

“It was also nice to hear what they wished for in the future.”
