Cumbrian tech metal acts Red Shift and Foundry share a bill in Workington on Saturday May 27.

Highly-regarded Furness outfit Red Shift have played at Lounge 41 on a couple of occasions since launching their debut EP last summer, and will return with a revised set-list this weekend.

With seven members, and both male and female vocals, they are known for their distinctive sound and all-action live shows.

Their Origins EP displays the members' various influences, ranging from Pantera and Tesseract to Dream Theater and Nightwish.

Originally an instrumental act, the three founding members all now take up guitar roles in the band, which blends technical time signatures and heavy riffs with much more melodic passages.

The live shows will feature material from the EP as well as some newer material, which is expected to appear on a full-length release at a later date.

Their Whitehaven counterparts Foundry also began life without a vocalist, but have come into their own with the addition of a frontman.

Another highly-technical act, the quintet mix up influences such as prog and metalcore bands In Flames and Periphery.

Well established in West Cumbria, they have played more and more out-of-town shows of late, including reaching the semi-finals of the Metal 2 the Masses competition in Carlisle.

Doors open at 8pm, and entrance is free.
