A road closure in a west Cumbrian village has been extended for another week.

Motorists face yet more disruption in Brigham, near Cockermouth, as a result of United Utilities pipe works.

Access to the A66, via St Bridgets' Church, has already been closed off for weeks - meaning drivers have had to make lengthy detours via Chapel Brow or Ellerbeck Brow.

Now Brigham Parish Council says it has been informed that the closure is set to continue.

A statement on its Facebook page said: "United Utilities have informed us that the laying of the new pipeline by their contractor will take another week. Therefore the access to the A66 next to St Bridget's Church will remain closed."

The road closure has also disrupted bus services in the village.

To help passengers, United Utilities has funded a shuttle bus, which will be extended for a further week.

The parish council adds that there will be pedestrian access to and from St Bridgets' Church between 4pm on Saturday and 7am on Monday to allow for those wishing to attend services.
