A contraflow will be in place on the A66 in Cumbria from tonight.

The westbound carriageway at Bassenthwaite Lake will be closed while work is done to repair damage from a collision earlier this month.

The work is expected to take several days to complete.

The eastbound carriageway will be made two way during the work.

A five-metre section of stone wall was knocked down in a crash on the road on September 5.

The contraflow will be in place between Dubwath and Thornthwaite until the repairs are completed.

A spokesman said routine maintenance such as gully clearing and sign cleaning would also be done on the westbound side while it was shut.
