Motorists are being urged to slow down on a busy fell road to ensure the safety of hundreds of grazing lambs.

Leaflets are being handed out by the Cold Fell Action Group asking drivers to slow down and be aware of animals.

Over the years, many sheep, cows and horses have been injured or killed along the 8.5-mile stretch of road which connects Ennerdale Bridge and Calderbridge.

Bob Jones, chairman of the action group, said: “Every year we promote safe driving as the young lambs are going out so there’s a greater risk.

“We want people to take extra care on the roads.”

This year, the action group has updated its Fell Road code, which was introduced 10 years ago.

It will be handed out to Sellafield workers, as many use the road, as well as to businesses in the area.
