One of the most successful British alternative metal bands of recent decades will be marking their 20th anniversary with a nationwide tour this year.

But before that, InMe's highly-regarded vocalist and guitarist Dave McPherson will be taking on a tour of his own, calling in at Lounge 41, in Workington, on Wednesday September 28.

It will be the singer-songwriter's first visit to West Cumbria, and Dave is looking forward to ticking another town off his long list.

He says: "I've played Carlisle a couple times solo plus Penrith a few years back. The band played Barrow-in-Furness years ago too but in my experience Cumbria isn't on tour posters as much as it should be.

"I've never even visited the Lake District and I've been touring extensively for 15 years.

"I'm a great lover of the countryside and nature in England, so it'd be a crime not to do some exploring before the show.

"Exploring nice places is very important to me and I never understand musicians that just sit in hotel rooms for entire tours.

"Routing sometimes affects chances to get out but I find great pleasure doing research in advance and planning fun trips. Cool beaches, interesting architecture, and quirky pubs - we just played a couple of festivals with the band, but found time to visit a massive lake and have a blast on a pedalo!"

The Workington date will be one of the more intimate shows on Dave's tour, and an unusual acoustic date among the catalogue of visiting rock acts at Lounge 41 of late.

Even after a decade of relentless gigging, it still surprises him that it's not just fans of the band who are turning up to show their support.

He continues: "InMe crowds are very supportive of what I do outside of the band, so there's quite a bit of audience crossover, but it's actually quite refreshing when someone says they're surprised to enjoy my solo stuff as they don't like the band stuff as much.

"It's a completely different sound even though it's obviously the same singer and songwriter."

InMe have had six highly-successful studio albums to date, spawning a number of Top 40 UK singles.

Over the years, the band have toured with the likes of Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Pendulum, Deftones, Serj Tankian, Staind, Feeder and Biffy Clyro, and played some of Europe's biggest rock festivals.

With a new album out - the first part of their ambitious triple-album, Trilogy - their anniversary tour is going to be one of their biggest for some time.

That's all in addition to Dave's inconceivably prolific output, with dozens of releases - not to mention numerous tours of his own - since going solo in 2007.

"I'm trying out a medley experiment as I have too many songs," says Dave of his latest tour.

"I'm combining songs into one so that I can touch on a lot more material, which is fun. I'm also releasing a brand new EP, entitled Give It Time, Time It Gives in support of the tour and every time I play the songs I get rushes and chills, which is hopefully a good thing.

"I'm always making music in some form or another but these songs have something extra special, heartfelt and more personal for me.

"I'm bringing my good friends Marc Halls and Jakob Deist on the road with me too, and they're amazing musicians that definitely keep me on my toes.

"I've toured with Marc and his old band, Fei Comodo, about eight times now I think. We're close friends and I think it works well as a kind of tour package as such. He's the real deal when it comes to incredible songwriting, vocals, musicianship and is just a very nice person too, so it's a no-brainer.

"We're all great friends so it'll be a lot of fun to just hang out and not do the whole lonely road dog thing that I've done too much in the past."

Dave McPherson comes to Lounge 41, in Workington, on Wednesday September 28, with support from Marc Halls, Jakob Deist, Ivory Veins, Shane Sanderson and Retro Youth. Tickets are available from www.wegottickets.com
