Talented young singers raised over £800 for a charity providing end of life care in West Cumbria.

Around 200 children from six schools came together for the West Cumbria Primary Schools Choirs Concert at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington and raised £819 for Hospice At Home West Cumbria.

The event was organised by music teacher Mike Milner, who coordinated choirs from Beckstone, Derwent Vale and Flimby primary schools, Seaton St Paul's Church of England Junior School, Victoria junior, infant and nursery schools for the event held in June.

Gemma Bell, Hospice fundraiser, said: "We are so grateful for this fantastic donation and the continued support from Mike Milner and all the local schools that performed in the Joint Schools Choir.

"We are overwhelmed by the amount raised and would like to thank all the staff, children and parents who supported the event. This money will support patients and families in our local area who need support from Hospice at Home West Cumbria."

Each choir sang two songs before joining together in a mass choir performing a medley of pop hits and cartoon songs.

Following the performance, Mr Milner said: "Seeing 200 children singing together is quite powerful and quite moving. These are children that normally are in competition when we do festivals and they came together for a worthwhile cause.

"I think it's good for all the children to come together in a none competitive environment and it creates a wonderful sound."

The charity is planning on holding its first Hospice Talent Night on November 3. Acts of all kinds and ages are invited to take the stage at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington to help the charity raise money.

The event, in partnership with Workington Town Council, will see four judges handing prizes to the best acts. The winner will receive £100, the runner-up £50 and the third placed a prize of £25.

Tickets to watch Hospice Talent Night will be £10 for adults and £5 for children. The show will start at 7pm and tickets can be bought from the theatre’s box office.
