A Cumbrian teenager has appeared before a district judge accused of stabbing a man in Workington.
Jonathan Graham Winstanley, 18, of Firth View Walk, Workington, made a brief appearance at Carlisle's Rickergate Magistrates' Court this morning.
He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Michael Hill at the defendant's home address.
The victim was allegedly stabbed on Friday afternoon, the court heard.
The defendant, dressed in a black T-shirt, spoke only to confirm his name and address and to say he understood the charge.
He was represented by defence lawyer David Martin.
District Judge Kevin Grego told the defendant: "This court can't deal with a Section 18 wounding matter. It has to be dealt with by the crown court."
The judge ruled that Winstanley must appear before the crown court in Carlisle on April 24, when a plea and trial preparation hearing will be heard.
Mr Martin confirmed there would be no application for bail.
