A teenager has rescued a dog who was struggling to get back to shore after swimming in Derwentwater.

Edward Hutchinson, 18, went to the rescue of the spaniel after it got into difficulty on Saturday.

The shore staff member at Keswick Launch Company realised the dog was getting tired and feared it would struggle to swim back to its owners.

Edward said: "The dog was getting obsessed with the geese in the lake and the owners were trying to shout for it.

"I got one of the owners in the rowing boat with me and we went to get it. We were in the water for probably five or 10 minutes.

"It was getting pretty tired and I managed to get alongside the dog and get it into the boat.

"I was happy to help the dog in danger and the owners were very grateful."
