Talent scouts from The Voice have chosen a village brewery as the only place in the north of the county to hold auditions in the search for future stars.

The Brewery Tap, at the family-run Ennerdale Brewery, will host an open mic event next month, with those who impress in with a chance of singing live for the panel of coaches including will.i.am in next year's show.

But only 60 singers will be able to audition during the four-hour time slot and it will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

The only other venue in Cumbria to host auditions is in Kendal.

West Cumbria's very own singing sensation Jolan Gidney-Craigen shot to fame when he came runner-up in last year's show.

He is now urging others to take part, saying the show changed his life.

"I want as many people who can sing to go to the open mic night as possible," he told the News & Star .

"It's a fantastic show and a fantastic opportunity to get your name and face out there.

"It's life-changing."

The brewery's Clair (CORR) McLachlan, who is organising the event with ITV, is thrilled that the venue has been singled out.

Producers rang Clair out of the blue earlier this week to ask if the brewery would host the evening.

She believes it's came off the back of the brewery working with film crews last year, when actor Sir Tony Robinson was recording his Coast to Coast show.

"It seems a case of one producer's been talking to another," said Clair. "I was a little bit shocked when I got the call as they asked for me by name.

"But because we run open mics each month and got on so well with the crew last time, it wasn't such a shock.

"We want to showcase the talent in the area. Cumbria is just an unrepresented county. We hold an open mic every month and there's some fabulous singers.

"We're over the moon. We are finally getting recognised. We are the back of beyond, family-run brewery and we're getting noticed."

The open mic event takes place on Monday, May 22 between 6pm and 10pm.

People are asked to come for 5.30pm to register, where they will be handed a ticket and their number called out – they are asked not to call the brewery in advance.

There will be two scouts, and a camera, who will record auditions which will be used for the shortlisting of the live auditions.

Auditions are limited to 15 per hour, totalling 60 during the night.

There will be no equipment to play any backing tracks. Those taking part need to be 16-years-old on or before October 1 and under-18s need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
