The number of town councillors in Workington is set to be scrutinised.

Allerdale council will carry out a governance review of the 30-member Workington Town Council.

The move, requested by the town body, willsee borough councillors analyse existing ward boundaries and the size of the council.

The town council - a parish council - runs non-statutory services across the town including play areas, cultural events and nature projects.

Currently its 30 councillors work across 11 parish wards. On the borough council, there are 15 members in six wards covering the same geographical area.

While the town council requested the review, it did not specify a proposed scope. Therefore, Allerdale council agreed that a working party of its 15 Workington area councillors should review the town council's ward boundaries and names, and the size of the organisation.

They will report back to their Allerdale council colleagues with their findings and recommendations.

A timescale has not been set for the project , which will include public participation.
