Mayor Alan Tyson did the ribbon-snipping honours at The Laureates, off Low Road.
The mayor was joined by residents of the new development, who enjoyed free ice creams served from a vintage ice cream tricycle.
The play park, which includes swings, slides and a small climbing wall, is predominantly made from wood to complement its surroundings.
Seating is placed close to activities so that adults can keep a close eye on little ones.
Trees have been planted over benches and seating which, when matured, will provide extra shade for parents and children.
Coun Tyson said: “It has been lovely meeting local residents at The Laureates, all of whom seem thrilled with the new play area, which offers a safe outdoor space for their children to enjoy.”
Clare Noakes, regional sales director, said: “Lovell is committed to building homes with a lasting legacy for our residents and we are excited that we can provide a new family-focused area for this thriving new community at The Laureates.”
The Laureates is a collection of 217 new homes, with a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.
