Discussions have started on transferring the ownership of a Seaton play area.

Allerdale council wants to transfer the play park on Hunter's Drive to Seaton Parish Council.

This is the latest of Allerdale-owned play areas to be transferred to a parish council.

Siddick, Brewery Lane in Harrington and Newlands Lane have all been transferred to Workington Town Council in the last three years and the play areas at Harrington harbour and Vulcan's Lane are also due to be transferred to them this year.

Paul Bramley, Seaton Parish Council clerk, said: "The council agreed to open discussions with Allerdale council on taking over Hunter's Drive play area, but is asking for details of ground maintenance and equipment maintenance costs, together with a condition report on the play area."

Julian Smith, parks and open spaces officer at Allerdale council, said it costs around £450 a year to carry out weekly inspections and cover costs for minor repairs.

He added: "The cost of significant repairs varies from year to year. It could be anything from £200 for a replacement part to several thousands for replacement of a specific piece of equipment. No items of play equipment have been replaced since I joined the council three years ago."
