A Broughton Moor woman will jump from a plane at 15,000ft for charity four years after a tumour was removed from her brain.

Kellie Moore, 40, will do a sponsored skydive with colleagues Jessica Bromby, 24, and Louise Scott, 45. The trio work at Specsavers in Workington.

Kellie, who is a shop floor supervisor, had the idea when the company was looking for a charity to support this year.

She said: "We wanted to look at charities that were personal to us as well as other ones and I suggested The Brain Tumour Charity.

"Eye tests can detect symptoms of a brain tumour. Mine wasn't one of those but we thought it would be a good cause to support because of my story and what we do."

Kellie and her colleagues have already raised over £1,000, which was their initial target.

Kellie said: "I would love to see that figure go up. However what we're doing has nothing to do with the amount of money, it's about giving the charity recognition and raising awareness of brain tumours. In fact, we're giving out leaflets in the shop on the symptoms."

Kellie's tumour was removed on January 14, 2014 at the Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester.

But it was only after five years of ongoing ear problems that doctors reached a diagnosis.

She said: "I was eventually sent to Carlisle to try and widen my ear canal and a biopsy showed I had a meningioma. That was in August of 2013 and five months later I had the tumour removed. I don't remember a lot of what happened at the time, it's all a bit of a blur, but after going backwards and forwards with these ear problems I was relieved I had a reason for it."

A team of 12 doctors operated Kellie for 12 hours but she lost her hearing to the right ear following the operation.

She said: "I was back at work within three or four months. I still struggle with my balance a little bit, but it's nothing compared to what it could have been. I have a completely normal life now and it went back to normal pretty quickly."

Kellie, who is married to Howard and moved to Cumbria 15 years ago from Taunton, said she has never done a skydive before and isn't into adrenaline sports.

She said: "I'm trying not to think about about it too much."

Jessica, who will do the skydive with Kellie in April, said: "I always wanted to do a skydive although I'm dreading the jump. I've done other things for charity in the past but never something like this."

Louise said: "I've always wanted to do it and it's for a good cause so now it's the opportunity. I'm really excited and it's great to have raised so much money already."
