Dearham Primary School children has hosted the first colour run of the year for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

The school was the first to take part in the event in 2015 and has been doing it ever since.

Headteacher Sam Kidd said: "We took up the offer the first time because we had some time previously lost a member of our staff to cancer.

"It was such a success that we have kept doing it. Now about three quarters of all pupils take part and it has become a community event."

This year more than 180 pupils ran the gauntlet of powder paint to raise money for the charity.

Hospice spokeswoman Stella Walsh said colour runs had raised around £19,000 since 2015.

Six schools will each host their own mini event this year.

Dearham was the first to take part and will be followed by St Bees Primary School, St James Junior School in Whitehaven, Orgill Primary School in Egremont and Seaton Academy.

The fundraising project will culminate in two colour runs at Muncaster Castle on Sunday, July 2. There will be a 1K and 5K routes and the event will include a family fun day.
