Workington Amateur Operatic Society's Junior Section will bring the spectacle of the circus live to the Carnegie stage in their 2018 production of Barnum.

Inspired by the new film 'The Greatest Showman', the musical extravaganza tells the story of PT Barnum, creator of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, which was billed as 'The Greatest Show On Earth'.

This year WAOS Juniors are eager to add to their skill set and take on yet another demanding challenge after winning two NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) awards for sell out performances of Les Miserables in 2016 and Starlight Express in 2017.

The society's Mark Stilwell said: "The budding youngsters are once again ready to hit the stage after spending rehearsal time immersed in circus life, learning various performer skills and exploring unique, varied and wonderful big top characters."

Following in the footsteps of Michael Crawford, Brian Conley, and Hugh Jackman, last year's male lead Andy White plays the man of the hour and master of illusion and humbug, Mr Barnum.

Jasmin Smith takes on her WAOS Juniors acting debut with the strong yet caring role of Mrs Chairy Barnum, alongside Jack McNicholas as the Ringmaster, Amelia Crawford as Jenny Lind, and Daniel Dixon as Julius Goldschmidt.

Not forgetting, of course, the colourful circus folk including Amber Cartmell as Joice Heth, the 160-year-old woman and General Tom Thumb played by Jack Hawley.

Join the circus this February and discover the mystery and magic behind one of the world's most fabulously fascinating shows, and help WAOS bring another showstopper to life.

Performances run daily from February, 7 to 10 and tickets are available now from the Carnegie Box Office 01900 602122 or www.carnegietheatre.co.uk.
