A weather warning has been issued as Cumbria prepares for another storm to hit this weekend.

The Met Office has said there could be a risk of flooding in some areas, along with travel disruption and power cuts.

Coastal areas are most at risk, with forecasters predicting high winds and dangerous conditions on the coast.

Having been battered by Ophelia earlier this week,The Met Office says a new weather system is heading for Britain.

The second UK-named storm of the winter, Storm Brian, will bring strong winds - potentaially up to 70mph - to coastal areas of the county.

The Met Office has today issued a yellow warning of wind, which is set to hit the county on Saturday.

Running from 4am until midnight, it predicts a spell of strong southwesterly winds will hit Cumbria.

The west and south of Cumbria, particularly on the coast, will be the worst-hit.

The Met Office says: "Some coastal routes and communities are likely to be affected by large waves, with potential for flooding of properties.

"Some transport disruption is likely across the warning area, with delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

"Short term loss of power and other services is also possible.

The forecast is for an intense low pressure system to bring a swathe of strong winds over southwestern areas of the county early on Saturday, steadily moving east through the morning and early afternoon.

It adds: "The winds initially southwesterly will gradually turn westerly later whilst also slowly easing.

"Gusts exceeding 50 mph are expected widely within the warning area, with gusts of around 70 mph along exposed coastal areas.

"These are expected to coincide with high tides, leading to locally dangerous conditions around the coast."
