A teenager from a Cleator Moor family and her dance troupe will be fighting for a place in the live finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

Poppy Gerrard, 14, is a member of the dance troupe Mersey Girls (formerly known as Just Us).

The five-strong team have jetted into the semi-finals after judge Alesha Dixon pressed the golden buzzer.

And now, they are preparing to perform in one of the live shows airing next week.

Poppy’s mum Kath said: “Poppy is just overwhelmed. They are living their dreams.

“They haven’t stopped! They’ve done radio interviews, interviews with newspapers and danced at Anfield on Saturday at the final home game.”

“They went to an awards ceremony in Durham – they’ve been like superstars.”

The company, made up of five teenagers including Poppy are all from The Wirral and met at their local dance school.

Kath said: “They set up this group – Just Us. They wanted to do the choreography on their own.”

She said the determined group having gone from practising in the garden to performing on the big stage.

The group auditioned once before being auditioned on the live show. Their performance hit the national headlines as one of the group members, Julia, suffers from Scoliosis – a curvature of the spine which she was born with.

Judges praised the group’s performance of Fight Songcommenting on their
Poppy Gerrard strong friendship and determination.

Kath said: “They are really great kids and they need the public’s votes to get them through. They really are living their dream.”

Poppy has previously starred in numerous adverts which includes fast-food chain McDonalds, The ADT Corporation, which provides security and fire protection and also an advert for Thorpe Park, a theme park.

Kath moved away from Cleator Moor when she married, but the family keep in touch with friends and the community.

Poppy’s grandmother Cathy Wells ran a popular toy shop with her husband Tony on High Street and still lives in the town.

Kath has thanked everyone from Cleator Moor for their support online.
