The deputy manager of a care home is retiring after 27 years.

Pauline Bell, 66, of Bridgefoot, is due to retire from her role at Clarendon Grange, Great Clifton today.

Pauline is the longest serving member of staff at the home and has been deputy manager for 15 years.

The mother-of-three said: "I wouldn't change anything. I've met some wonderful people, residents, staff and residents' family.

"I will miss everything. You do get attached to the residents when you're looking after them all the time. It's just a wonderful job that I've enjoyed.

"The staff is great. It's been nice working with all of them and the manager, Lyndsay Hay, is great, she would do anything to help anyone."

Pauline first started going to Clarendon Grange to visit a friend and then started doing weekend shifts.

She progressively increased her hours and worked her way up to being deputy manager.

She said: "There's been so many good memories. I've taken residents to their family weddings and it's been a privilege for me to be invited."

Pauline said she was looking forward to spending more time with her husband Peter, 66, and her two grandsons and three granddaughters, aged between two and 23.

And she also has some trips already planned.

She said: "After I finish I'm going to Canada to visit my sister and I'll be going to Africa in May.

"I'm really looking forward to having more time to spend with my family."
