A pop-up twist on traditional opera is set to come to Workington this weekend.

Award-winning touring group Opera Anywhere has teamed up with St Joseph's School pupils to perform a medley of well-known songs from the opera Carmen by Bizet.

The show, which was rehearsed at a workshop, will take place at The Hub in Workington at midday on Saturday.

The workshop and performance have been funded by Workington Town Council.

Councillor Antony McGuckin, chairman of the town council's culture committee, said: "The town council has wanted to bring outdoor opera performances to Workington for some time and working with Opera Anywhere seemed to be the ideal opportunity.

"We are delighted that the students from St Joseph’s School have decided to take part and cannot wait to see the final performance."

Opera Anywhere aims to make opera accessible by performing in new and unusual venues.
