IMPACT Housing wants to open a recycled furniture shop in Workington, creating four jobs.
The social landlord has applied for planning permission to open the outlet on Lakes Road.
Vans would collect donated goods which would be stored, cleaned and then resold to the public at affordable prices, Impact said. It would create three full-time jobs and a part-time job.
Impact had previously tried to open the shop nearer the town centre but could not find a suitable site.
It has similar furniture recycling projects in Carlisle, Penrith and Ulverston.
Allerdale council will make the final decision.
