Brighter future for Keswick

THE FUTURE of the Keswick Area Partnership is much brighter with funding for another year.

Funding of £1 million from the Northwest Development Agency ended earlier this month, but the partnership’s work will continue after it secured money, mainly from Allerdale and the county councils.

The partnership, which has been running for more than two years, has brought in matched funding which has resulted in £3.8m being spent in the town.

The new cash, which includes money from the Keswick Tourism Association and other smaller donors, means that the partnership can now look at improvements to the Station Street and St John’s Street areas.

One of the partnership’s involvements has been with the Derwentwater Foreshore Project, for which it has secured £1.2 million from the lottery funds.

Plans, which are now underway, include the restoration of natural features, landscaping and educational activities, plus training opportunities .
