Plans have been revealed for 80 new houses in Seaton.

Story Homes requested a meeting with Seaton Parish Council to discuss the development of the land off High Seaton, near the former Coachman Inn.

Adam McNally, of the firm, said: "At this stage we're looking to submit a detailed planning application for up to 80 houses.

"We're looking at doing this in spring and we'll be consulting with the public to help us shape our plans."

He added that 20 per cent of the houses would be affordable.

But Councillor Julie Norman said: "I understand the need for affordable housing in the area.

"But both schools are quite full, especially the junior school.

"We have very good schools and I think it could cause animosity if the residents weren't able to send their children to the village school.

"Story Homes have a very good reputation for lovely homes and I hope the plans are sympathetic to the village."

Coun Lily Harwood said: "A real concern is traffic. Where they intend to build is a corridor between Workington and villages further afield and that needs to be taken into consideration."

Coun Norman added: "There's a speeding issue down that road, hopefully something will be done to stop the speeding there with traffic calming measures."

Plans were approved in September to build up to 49 houses in the village's Lowca Lane, west of Hazelgrove.
