When Adam Stitt first opened his Cockermouth bike shop, 4Play Cycles, 15 years ago he could never have envisaged how successful it would become.

He started out in a small shop in Old Kings Arms Lane, off Main Street.

Three years later he went on to move into his dream location on Market Place.

Following the 2009 floods he expanded into the next door premises and doubled the size of his shop.

And Adam, 41, is delighted with how it has all evolved.

"We love coming to work every day, it's a pleasure," said Adam, who employs Stephen Vear.

"The business has always improved and adapted, we've been on a steady learning curve since day one.

"I'm so pleased to be where we are, it's such a great location. I had always liked this spot but never thought we would be able to afford it."

Adam lives in Kirkland with his wife Hilary, a physiotherapist.

The father-of-four has enjoyed watching cycling catching on over the years and reckons the London Olympics sparked lots of interest.

"It's become the sport to do, its popularity has just spiralled over the years," said Adam, who is delighted to have had the Tour of GB on his doorstep in the past few years.

The business has moved with the times over the years.

He said: "We've just had a massive rebranding, there's a new website and the shop's been repainted."

"We're having to embrace the technology of the modern age, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

"We're just so grateful to all our customers who have suppported us. I feel part of the town, Cockermoth has embraced us."
