The Dementia Action Alliance Group, which is made up of organisations and community groups, was set up in November to work to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia in the town.
The group will officially launch the project on May 19 and the Alzheimer’s Society, which is leading on it, has been busy holding dementia friends sessions with local groups and businesses.
The sessions are aimed at raising awareness of what it means to live with the disease to make the community of Workington more dementia friendly.
Staff at Allerdale council took part in the sessions.
Graeme Wilson, head of housing and health at the council, said: “We encourage our employees to be ambassadors for the local community, and the Alzheimer’s Society dementia friends sessions will allow participants to gain an understanding of dementia and how it may affect many people in the borough, and in turn will help raise awareness and implement change.”
