Artists will be given a unique chance to showcase their work in Workington.
Rachel Gregg, 35, of Pearl Road, Salterbeck, is set to open a new homeware shop soon in the upstairs of the GWK Shop on James Street.
The shop’s walls will become a gallery for artists.
Rachel’s late father William, of Whitehaven, was a well-known local artist and has inspired her.
Rachel said: “My dad was a good artist but struggled with gallery prices and it’s a difficult lifestyle.
“There’s a lot of wall space in my shop to give a gallery environment.
“I’m doing it in memory of him and it’s a chance for local artists to showcase their work.
“I do like art myself, but I’m hoping to put my artistic streak into the furniture.”
Rachel originally trained as a primary school teacher.
She said: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while so fingers crossed that it works.
“It’s an upcycling business and we’ll be redesigning furniture and working with clients which I’m quite excited about.”
