A Workington training centre manager is celebrating after being crowned employee of the year.

Adrian Ross, who heads PHX Training at Salterbeck's Oval Centre, was given the award at the company's annual conference.

Nominated by his manager Lesley Taylor, Mr Ross joined the firm as a tutor in May last year after being made redundant from a previous job.

He was promoted to manager five months later and leads a team of trainers who help learners gain qualifications to get into work.

He also oversees the running of two of the area's other offices in Carlisle and Penrith.

Mr Ross said: "It was totally unexpected, I just go to work and get on with my job, so it was a nice surprise to hear my name announced.”

Ms Taylor added: “Adrian always goes above and beyond his role. When he first joined PHX, it quickly became clear he had a lot of potential.

"Since being made manager, he has increased performance in all three centres with job outcomes in the area at their highest.

“His positive approach to the tasks in-hand, especially during challenging periods, reflects his dedication to making a difference to learners.”
