A Seaton bed and breakfast is in the running to win a national prize after being shortlisted in the eviivo awards.

Armidale Cottages is one of five North West businesses in contention for the scheme's hidden gems award.

Winning entrants from nine UK regions will go onto to compete for the Star Among Stars award which crowns the UK champion.

The eviivo awards are held annually and celebrate the country's best B&Bs, guesthouses and independent small hotels.

Sue Dahl, owner of Armidale Cottages, has been running the bed and breakfast since 2005.

The property dates back to the mid 1600s and has an Inglenook fireplace and an original spiral stone staircase.

Sue converted her home into a B&B with her husband Fred after their 25th wedding anniversary.

She said: "I'm over the moon to hear that my B&B has been selected as one of the finalists and I'm really hoping we win.

"For us, it's all about the customer and making sure they have the best possible experience, but it's wonderful to know that we've been recognised for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes each day."

Armidale Cottages are among the properties shortlisted in the North West category.

The nine regional winners will be revealed at a black-tie dinner awards ceremony on October 18 at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London.

An overall winner will be selected at the same event.
