A COCKERMOUTH business will be in the spotlight when the Tour of Britain comes to town next month.

The Coffee Kitchen, on Challoner Street, has won the contract to cater for the cycling race's VIPs.

Its staff will serve breakfast to the race officials on September 8, when Cockermouth hosts the start of the third stage of the tour.

Andy Walsh, owner, said: "It's a fantastic opportunity and a great honour to be serving the VIP guests.

"The day promises to be an exciting one and it must start with a good breakfast.

"We're really looking forward to it. I think the secret to this success is very simple -  we make real bread.

"I'd like to highlight that it's not just about our own products, we'll be serving bread rolls and croissants, but we'll be using marmalade and cheeses for example from other local producers."

The Coffee Kitchen, which opened four years ago and is due to open its own bakery on Market Place soon, will also have a stall on the Main Street on the day.

Mr Walsh said: "The tour is a real opportunity for Cockermouth, which is a fantastic place to live and to shop.

"This year we've had events such as Northbound, Cockermouth Live, the Georgian fair and Taste Cumbria will happen shortly after the tour.

"All these events help put Cockermouth on the map."
