Sir Bradley Wiggins could be on his way to the Castle Inn Hotel and Restaurant at Bassenthwaite.

Eighteen members of the cycling star's Team Wiggins group are due to check into the hotel on September 7 ahead of the Cockermouth to Kelso stage of the Tour of Britain the following day.

They will be joined by 12 members of Danish group Cult Energy Pro and 16 members of Russian team Tinkoff Saxo.

Peter Wells, operations director at the hotel, said: “As a sportsperson myself I’m really excited to be hosting three of the teams at the hotel.

"We have always been a popular choice for anyone taking part in sporting challenges, probably due to our excellent fitness facilities and convenient yet rural location.

“Furthermore our catering team always rise to any challenge and have relished in the opportunity to create a menu focusing on lean protein and carbohydrates - all the essentials to ensure the riders enjoy healthy and fulfilling meals during their stay.”

It is not known whether Sir Bradley will be among the team members staying at the hotel.
