The inaugural Innovation Showcase and Awards, held at The Halston, Carlisle, hailed the achievement in technology across Cumbria and in the UK’s nuclear industry.
It was run by Innovus, a joint project between the National Nuclear Laboratory and The University of Manchester’s Dalton Nuclear Institute.
It showcased the breadth of creativity, innovation and technology that has enabled small and medium-sized businesses to grow.
West Cumbrian projects were among some of the winners on the night.
Flimby’s Forth Engineering, with Avexis, picked up the Best Academic Collaboration Award.
Cockermouth’s Createc, with its Riser project, won second prize in the Best Nuclear Decommissioning Project category, followed by fellow Cockermouth firm Mobetrics Ltd, which was named third for its Second Sight technology.
Flame Concepts Ltd, also of Cockermouth, picked up first prize for its e-ticketing software in the Business Growth Award, and Cleator Moor-based Delkia won third in the Cross Sector Innovation Award for its in-line electro valve.
Other categories included Potential to Change the World.
Adrian Davis-Johnston, of Innovus, said: “In the last few years there has been £4 million private sector-led research, development and innovation activity achieved by Cumbrian businesses that are looking to make a change in the industry.
“These awards highlight the talent we have right here in Cumbria.”
