Two charities are getting a Christmas cash boost thanks to staff at Britain’s Energy Coast.

Egremont Foodbank and CFM’s Cash for Kids will benefit from a £2,000 charity programme as part of Britain’s Energy Coast’s festive celebrations

It follows a project led by Adam Phillips, BEC’s community and energy officer and Rachel Murray, business administration apprentice, to identify local charities to receive financial support.

The charities were chosen following presentations by Adam and Rachel to senior team members and engagement with Hugh Branney, of Cleator Moor Town Council, where BEC’s headquarters are located.

The programme will see the firm donate the team’s voluntary Christmas party contributions to the charities with a matched donation – estimated to raise £2,000.

The work of the charities will also be shared with everyone at BEC, to promote a greater understanding of both organisations.

Adam said: "When Rachel and I set out on this project we had a very clear aim: to support a charity that would benefit people on our doorstep.

"There are many worthy causes in the UK and we wanted to give financial support to a charity that would support people as close to our bases in Cumbria as possible.

“Cleator Moor does not have its own foodbank but more than 200 people attending the Trussell Trust’s site in Egremont are from the town, and a heart-breaking half of those in receipt of help are children.

“We were impressed by Egremont’s commitment in sending a mobile support van to Cleator Moor to ensure those who are most vulnerable in our society, and who cannot travel, could still receive help. Our donation will be supporting this service over the festive period.”
