There will be jingling bells and tingling taste buds as Taste Cumbria Christmas comes to Cockermouth.

The festival on December 10 and 11 will bring food stalls, cookery demonstrations and family entertainment to the town centre.

Main Street will host a giant producers' market, allowing people to stock up on Christmas presents and food treats, alongside a food court serving meals and snacks to eat on the day.

There will also be free demonstrations from some of Cumbria’s best chefs and food and drink experts in the Cockermouth Kitchen Company shop on Market Place, and entertainment including a live music stage showcasing some of the county’s best bands and singers.

The event is organised by CN Events, working with Allerdale council and Cumbria Life, and its main sponsors are Jennings Brewery, Cockermouth Kitchen Company, Cockermouth Town Council, the Lakes Distillery, the Trout Hotel, The Coffee Kitchen and Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

It will be the town's second Taste Cumbria Christmas event, building on the success of the annual September food festival.

Festival organiser Marie Whitehead, director of CN Events, said: "We can’t wait to be back in Cockermouth this December. The town’s fantastic independent shops and eateries will be joining in the fun.

"As well as staging another great food festival, we hope there will be a fabulous street party atmosphere right throughout the town.

"We staged Taste Cumbria Christmas in Cockermouth for the first time in 2015 just a week after the town was hit by floods. It was brilliant to see how people supported local businesses and I hope we’ll get the same incredible response this year.

"We want to show people there is no need to head out of the county for a Christmas market because they have one, right on their doorstep."

Thousands of people packed Cockermouth town centre over the two days of the September Taste Cumbria event.

They enjoyed shopping and samples from a range of food producers from across the county and beyond, as well as demonstrations from a mix of local and celebrity chefs, in an event designed to bring an economic boost to the town.
