A Cockermouth business owner has kitted out the town's mountain rescue vehicle with new off-road tyres.

Darrie Goodfellow, of Goodfellow Tyres, at Fairfield, supplied and fitted the tyres for one vehicle and persuaded his main supplier, Goodrich, to do the same for another of the team's Landrovers. A set of four tyres costs about £720.

Darrie said: "I think they deserve it for everything they do for the town and area."

Jim Coyle, who manages the team's vehicles, said: "It's fantastic. The vehicles' tyres get a hammering when we go off road and can burst. To have two new sets of off-road tyres is wonderful.

"Goodfellows has looked after the team ever since we had the base near them, Darrie has been a good friend.

"Whenever there were parcels or deliveries to be taken in they would do it for us. Even now that we have moved from Fairfield they still do."
