The sights, sounds and smells of continental Europe will take over Workington later this month.

A three-day international fair will be held in the town centre on July 22 to 24.

Streets will be filled with stalls selling food and drink, and there will also be music and performers in the streets.

Up to 60 stalls selling food, drink and crafts from abroad and from Cumbria are expected to line Murray Road.

In Finkle Street there will be a children’s play area with plenty of free fun.

There will be a stage area for performers under The Hub.

It is hoped that the event will bring in around £1.5m for the town’s economy.

A one-day health and wellbeing festival and family fun day will close off the town centre in August.

Gyms and health groups will offer entertainment and encouragement for people to get exercising and get fitter.

The international festival is being backed by Allerdale District Council, Workington Town Council and the Washington Square shopping centre.
