Pizza chain Domino’s will not open its new store in Workington this year.

It was due to open in late summer, but this has been delayed due to planning issues.

A new date has not yet been announced, but bosses say they hope it will be early next year.

When it was announced last year the company was to invest £250,000 in a new store at Campbell-Savours Way in Washington Square, excitement spread.

However, the lack of work carried out, and the opening stalling, cast doubt that it would open.

But Dave Fletcher, town centre development manager, dismissed the fears.

He said: “It’s definitely still happening.”

He added workers would begin fitting out the empty unit in November

A planning application was lodged with Allerdale council late last year and was given the go-ahead in January.

There has since been a further two applications relating to the building’s design including shopfronts and signs.
