The developer behind rejected plans for a solar farm has appealed to the Government to overturn the decision.

Solar Park Developments wanted to install about 19,500 solar panels at Moor House Farm, Winscales, Workington.

They would have been in three fields between the A596, Hallwood Road, the A597 and Moore Way.

The firm said the development could power up to 1,200 homes and would be well screened.

Allerdale council officers recommended the plans for approval, but the council’s development panel refused the application in May.

Members said the plan would lead to the development of an area of currently undeveloped land, leading to the merging of High Harrington and Lillyhall, which would be the detriment for the area.

Official notices have now been sent to residents explaining the latest development. They state that an appeal has been made.

Solar Park Developments and its representatives were unavailable to comment.

When the scheme was rejected, a spokesman for planning agent Pegasus Group said the firm was disappointed over the decision.

He said: “This proposal is on low grade agricultural land, is virtually invisible in the landscape and brings ecological and biodiversity improvements, not to mention the benefits of generating renewable energy.”
