The three-year project launched in October 2013 was funded by Britain’s Energy Coast and nuclear partners. It was widely used by schools, businesses and residents.
Manager Zoe Crossan is in the process of setting up a new company, Design Code Ltd, and will work alongside Fab Lab colleague Hannah Reid.
Zoe said: “We are taking it forward and trying to make it more commercial. We are going to be a a 3D design and digital fabrication company, concentrating on architectural models, 3D signage, exhibition designs and commercial designs.
“Britain’s Energy Coast have been supporting us and are loaning us the machines so we will still be based at Derwent Mills Commercial Park and able to keep offering local businesses various services.
“It’s a new beginning, we are really excited.
“We have all the knowledge and experience of running Fab Lab which gives us something extra as a business.
“We are looking forward to getting involved in all the regeneration projects going on.”
