The young man behind the menu is Cockermouth School pupil and cooking fanatic Scott Melvin, who recently returned from Canada, where he was working with a top chef.
Scott, 15, will be supported in the kitchen at Wild Zucchinis by owner Manon Plouffe. Fiver Day will be held in the Station Street bistro on Thursdays, from 5pm to 8pm.
“The emphasis will be on healthy, but fun, eating,” said Manon.
“We already have a pool of young people who meet here, play cards, have hot chocolates and milkshakes. We’d just like to extend that and also support families.
“There’s not really anywhere for youngsters to get together at that time of day.”
Scott and Manon are going to create a range of desserts and non-alcoholic cocktails.
Scott, of Crosby, is full of ideas following his Canada trip.
He spent a fortnight with chef Pierre Leblanc, who runs a business catering for top end events.
His first job was to help out at an exclusive prom party for 1,000 people.
“The whole experience was great, very eventful. It gave me a different perspective to catering and lots of ideas,” said Scott.
“I’m really looking forward to the youth bistro, I love creating healthy, tasty food.”
