A jobs fair will be held in Workington next month.

The one-day event on Thursday March 3 will offer people the chance to meet employers, have their CVs polished and find out about opportunities for apprenticeships, training and further education.

More than 20 companies from different professions including construction, engineering, IT, health care and support services are set to attend the fair.

A marquee will be set up in the centre of Washington Square for the Get Started! jobs fair, from 10am to 3pm.

Last year's event saw around 500 jobseekers attend.

It has been organised by Workington Rotary, Job Centre Plus, Inspira, town centre development manager Dave Fletcher and was backed by Allerdale and Workington councils.

John Head, of the Rotary club, said it was another tool for people who felt they didn’t know where to start with finding or changing work.

He added: "It’s accessible in the town centre and is a vehicle for jobseekers that we feel wasn’t there.

"There will be more emphasis on shop work and the caring profession this time too. Each year we are developing the event to make sure we can include as many people as possible."
