Keswick will host its first jobs fair in more than a decade later this month.

The event has been organised by the Department for Work and Pensions following the success of a fair in Workington last month, which attracted hundreds of job seekers.

It will be held at the Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick on March 29, from 10am to 2pm, with the help of Keswick Rotary and Inspira.

Opportunities will be available for work in Keswick, Cockermouth and Penrith.

The fair follows the news that the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance or Universal Credit in Allerdale last month was 1,120, down 20 on last year, with 265 of those people aged between 18 and 24, down 50 on last year.

The number of women in work in the north west has also risen by 41,000 over the last year to a near record high of 1.63 million.
