New plans for a KFC restaurant in Workington are due to be submitted.

The fast food chain has launched recruitment for managers for its planned branch in the town.

A spokesman this week confirmed that a site had been identified and the firm was in process of submitting a planning application.

The company would not confirm the location of its chosen site.

In 2011 the company submitted a plan for a restaurant and drive-through opposite Morrisons supermarket on Derwent Drive.

But in 2012 it withdrew the application to make alterations to the plans, which were never resubmitted to Allerdale council. It said it could not reveal the reason.

A year ago plans were revealed for a site near the A595 at Lillyhall.

The firm said the development would create about 40 jobs and it hoped to open the restaurant and drive-through by 2016.

In February plans were revealed for a two-storey restaurant and single-storey drive-through on the corner of Lakes Road and Bessemer Way, Derwent Howe.

QFM submitted a planning application to Allerdale council.

The application was later withdrawn.

Franchise company QFM Group is recruiting for the manager, assistant manager and team leader posts at the new store.

KFC started looking at the Workington area five years ago.

It investigated several sites within the town centre but could not find a suitable one.

It put out a call to people in the area to come forward with sites it might be interested in.
