Work has begun on a 10-berth caravan site on Maryport Marina land.
Pauline Gorley, chairwoman of the Maryport Marina and Harbour Authority, hopes to have the berths up and running in time for the town’s blues festival at the end of July, which attracts visitors from all over the county.
She said: "Plans have been approved but we are waiting for the premises licence from Allerdale council."
She said the initial 10 caravans would use facilities at the Maryport Marina to wash and cook.
Mr Gorley added: "If the 10 berths prove a success we will look at providing independent facilities for caravans."
